EMPOWERMENT COMMITTEE

The NASFAT National Empowerment Committee is set up to alleviate poverty by improving the Socio-economic status of the members of the Society. This it achieves mainly by:

• Building the capacity of unemployed youths seeking formal jobs and skills for successful entrepreneurial activities.
• Equipping non graduates with vocational skills of choice
• Supporting the financial take-off of income generating activities.
• Keying into existing poverty reduction initiatives by collaborating with government, private sectors and NGO’s

In line with no 2 and 4 above, the Committee identifies the Lagos State Ministry of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation as one of the organs of government that it can collaborate with to provide vocational skills for members.

The last vocational skill ran concurrently for 5weeks from 27th of October to 3rd December, 2008 with eight vocations which are:

1. Bead Making
2. Tie and Dye
3. Balloon Decoration
4. Cakes and Snacks
5. Soap and pomade
6. Hat Making
7. Hair braiding
8. Stove, thread and Izal making

Another one with the Lagos State Agricultural Development Authority (LSADA) Oko-Oba, Agege from June 3rd – June 4th, 2009 with the following vocations.

1. Crop production
2. Cat fish production
3. Snail production/farming
4. Grass cutter rearing
5. Liquid Soap production
6. Fish processing
7. Fruit Juice production
